Design in this case had to be highly efficient in terms of manufacturing. Since we were dealing with a product used in every household, the ideal was to create a product affordable to almost everyone, but not at the expense of the aesthetics.
In order to lower its cost significantly we designed the dish drainer to be without a bottom tray. The drainer has a funnel that drains the water directly into the sink in order to keep it dry.
“Releasing” the tray meant reducing almost half of the raw material, creating a major difference in the price. In this case Form definitely follows function and our objective was to create an aesthetic based on the reduction of details to the bare minimum necessary. To keep an air of freshness we decided to color the drainer in bold colors keeping the product young and exciting.
